1. Do we have to pay for this service?
No, the service is free. This includes all the online tools you need to set up your professional looking and easy to use Gift List. It also includes advice and recommendations from us at any stage, should you need it, as well as support for your guests whilst they are shopping for you, should they need any help. Plus it includes the smooth management of your Gift List in terms of orders, collation, wrapping and final delivery of your gifts.
2. Do we have to pay for delivery?
Delivery: If you select to have your gifts couriered to your door, we offer FREE shipping for all couples within SA (though if you live in an outlying, rural area there may be a small surcharge). Each guest pays a small contribution towards delivery of R29 per order regardless of where we deliver in the country.
If you live in the Cape Town area you may choose to pick up your gifts from our offices in Somerset West, in which case we do not charge you or your guests any delivery costs.
You may have come across other gift registry services who say that delivery is free. However don’t be fooled by this! They most probably will have calculated these extra costs into the overall price of the gift making it more expensive for your guest. We prefer to be more transparent and offer products at the right retail price, adding extra services like wrapping and delivery on top should you choose to use these services.
3. Is this service open to all South Africans?
Yes, we can deliver your gifts to you wherever you live in the country.
4. I’m NOT a bridal couple or buying for a registered couple, but still want to order something from your site – is this possible?
Yes, absolutely. Simply send us an email with the product(s) that you are interested in, where it is to be delivered and by when, and we’ll get back to you asap with stock availability and timing. We can deliver anywhere in SA and if it’s a gift for someone else, we can wrap and tag it, and deliver directly to them on your behalf.
5. Do you wrap the gifts?
Unfortunately we no longer offer a gift wrapping service. The majority of our couples to date have elected NOT to have their gifts wrapped since they already know what gifts are coming. So we’ve decided to stop the service, especially as we also feel it’s environmentally UNfriendly to waste all the paper. Your gifts are still packaged and boxed securely and packed with lots of bubble wrap and great deal of care to ensure as few breakages as possible.
6. How big is your range?
It’s BIG, and BEAUTIFUL! We feature over a thousand fantastic products from a carefully selected group of top quality South African and Global brands.
7. Where do you source all the gifts, are you affiliated to any shops?
No, we are a normal retail shop ourselves, but our shop just happens to be online instead of in a mall. So we source from the various manufacturers and trade distributors within SA and sell at the Recommended Retail Price.
8. When and how do we get our gifts?
Because we custom order all your gifts, you will receive them about a month after your wedding. If you have chosen to buy a lot of unsold items off your final list at ‘list closing’ (at the 10% discount), then it may take a little longer. 11. Isn’t it a bit cheeky to have a Wedding Gift List at all?
Not at all. The practice of guests giving wedding gifts has replaced the old custom of bringing fruits to the newlyweds to encourage fertility. Sending out a wedding list or registry with your invitation used to be frowned upon, however times change and the practice has now become so widespread and popular with both bridal couples and their guests, that there is no longer any stigma attached to holding a Gift List. After all, it’s a win-win situation for everyone: the bridal couple are ensured of receiving gifts that they genuinely want or need, and for the guests, it’s quick, easy and hassle free.
12. Do you always have stock of everything?
Due to the fact that a bridal couple may set up their Gift List 4 or 5 months (or sometimes even longer) before their wedding, stock issues can occur, especially with the more ‘Decorative / Objets D’Art’ items where décor trends evolve continuously and stock doesn’t always hang around that long. We ask our couples to be sensitive to this.
So, whilst TWGL makes every effort to only list items that our suppliers usually have in stock, there may be times when a certain item is out of stock and has to be ordered in from overseas, or created especially which may take longer to secure than the projected 4-6 weeks. If this is the case, and the couple's main consignment has already been couriered to them, the couple will be notified and the item(s) will be forwarded to the couple as soon as it arrives with TWGL. Alternatively the couple have the option of choosing a different item instead.
13. What if there is something we really want, but we can’t find it in the online catalogue?
If the item is made by a brand that we already offer, then it is more than likely we can source it for you. Let us know and we will do our best to secure the item for you.
14. If we want something expensive, can our guests contribute towards it?
Absolutely. The ability to have a wedding gift list that features more expensive items, such as a beautiful silver cutlery set , is one of the things that makes TWGL unique. Just add it to your list, along with TWGL gift vouchers and ask your guests to buy the gift vouchers, which you can use to pay for it.
15. How do we let our guests know that our registry is with The Wedding Gift List?
TWGL will happily provide you with free Invitation Inserts - just order them on registration, or later from your personalized page. Click here to view sample.
These smart, discreet inserts should be slipped into your invitation envelopes. This guarantees that your guests know where your gift list is and makes life much easier for them and for you. They will appreciate not having to ring around to find out where your list is or make lucky guesses at what you want.
We find that couples who do not use their Invitation Inserts do not receive as many gifts from their list as they'd hoped for.
16. How do our guests buy our gifts?
Your guests can buy your gifts either online, by email or over the phone.
When you set up your list, your guests will be able to view your list on our site by searching by your or your fiancé's full name. Your guests will be able to see your entire Gift List (including items already marked as SOLD), with great pictures of your selected items and any additional product details. When they've decided what they want to give you, they'll be able to buy it directly online with a credit card, using our secure payment system, or they may elect to pay by EFT or cheque.
If your guests don't have internet access, they will be able to email us or call us on the phone number which appears on your Invitation Insert and we can fax or post them a copy of your List. Then we will talk them through the payment options.
17. Can guests from overseas buy us a gift?
Anyone who has internet access and a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) can buy you a wedding gift with TWGL, whether they're in East London or London!
18. How do we know what's been bought for us?
Once we close your Gift List after your wedding we will send you a list of who bought you what, together with their postal address and personal message to help you with all those thank you notes! Furthermore, if you’d like to track your purchases yourself in the run up to your wedding, we provide you with a live list status for your own private viewing.
19. Is the Wedding Gift List Website Secure?
Yes, our website uses SSL encryption technology to ensure all credit card transactions are completely secure.
20. Are your prices competitive?
Yes. Most suppliers provide recommended retail prices and we adhere to these prices as do most other retailers. Additionally, if you purchase extra items from your list after the wedding, we will give you a 10% discount.
